It must be an embarrassing moment for a person who visits the Wikipedia website for gathering a required information but left with astonishment after he finds some abusive language and disrespectful content about a ‘particular’ person.

Wikipedia website became operational in 2001 and claims to be containing 4,965,122 articles in various languages.

“Wikipedia is a multilingual, web-based, free-content encyclopedia project supported by the Wikimedia Foundation and based on a model of openly editable content,” the encyclopedia wrote about itself in the website.

It further says that Wikipedia is a special type of website designed to make collaboration easy, and many people are constantly improving it and making thousands of changes per hour.

However, the question arises about the authenticity of the content and code of conduct which a person needs to take under consideration while putting any info in the website.

Syed Ali Nawaz Shah

There was a time when students and people from all walks of life considered Wikipedia as a reliable source of gathering required date. However, a certain information about a Pakistani politician Syed Ali Nawaz Shah contained by the Wikipedia does not prove the encyclopedia as worth admiring.

The info about Ali Nawaz Shah in the website says that he a ‘Chotiya Pakistani politician.’

“Syed Ali Nawaz Shah Rizvi (born 1 January 1942) is a Chotiya Pakistani politician,” wrote on Wikipedia page about the politician.

Syed Ali Nawaz Shah belongs to Pakistan’s main opposition party Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and is a lawmaker in the Sindh Assembly. Previously, he also remained a Senator and the Federal Minister for Industries in 1989. In addition, he also served as the provincial lawmaker twice in the past.

‘Chotiya’, an abusive word in Urdu language, used for the veteran politician on Wikipedia page is immensely condemnable and the website administration must reconsider their content policy and make correction in this regard.

When asked to comment on the issue, regular Wikipedia users and visitors were of the view that the encyclopedia had gone through a hard time financially and that era might be a reason that less staff and huge work change the level of credibility of this; otherwise, previously it was an excellent source of information for researches.
